FergieManchester United defender Rio Ferdinand says he has no injury worries as he gears up for the new season.

The 30-year-old suffered with a succession of back injuries last season and then missed much of the build-up to the UEFA Champions League final with a calf strain.

However, ahead of the Community Shield match against Chelsea on Sunday, Ferdinand has said he is fully fit and hope.

Edwin van der Sar is facing up to eight weeks on the sidelines after undergoing finger surgery.

The Manchester United goalkeeper has gone under the knife after breaking a bone in his left hand.

The 38-year-old sustained the injury during United's Audi Cup defeat against Bayern Munich in Germany.

Manchester United defender Nemanja Vidic will miss the start of the new Premier League season due to a calf injury.

Vidic has been struggling with the problem during pre-season and is expected to be sidelined for up to another fortnight.

The Serbia international will now sit out Sunday's Community Shield clash with Chelsea at Wembley and the following week's season opener at home to promoted Birmingham City.

Fellow defenders Wes Brown and Gary Neville are also sidelined, while United boss Sir Alex Ferguson admits it will be at least eight weeks before veteran keeper Edwin van der Sar recovers from a broken finger.
